Why nobody can quote a website without a call
A website is a product built for one business, so its price depends on what that business needs it to do. A six-page site that explains your services and takes a call is one job. A site with online booking, deposits, a client portal and a page for every town is another. Both are websites; they aren't the same price, and anyone who quotes without asking is guessing.
What we can do is tell you exactly what moves the number, so you can see where your project sits before we talk.
The size of the site
Every page is planned, written, designed, built and tested, so the count matters. Most small business sites need a page for each service, one for each area served, an about page, a contact page and a few supporting pages. Blog posts and town pages are quicker to add once the design exists, so a site that grows later isn't priced as if it were all built today.
What it has to do
The features are the biggest lever. A contact form is simple. Online booking with live availability and deposits, payments, a customer sign-in, a storefront on Toast or Shopify's API, or a connection to your practice or job software each add real build and testing time. We'll always tell you which ones earn their place and which can wait.
- Online booking and payments
- Client or patient portals
- Storefronts and ordering
- Integrations with your tools
- Multiple locations or languages
Words, photos and brand
A site is only as good as what's on it. If you have a brand guide, professional photos and copy that works, we build with them. If not, writing the copy, shooting photos or building the brand first is part of the project, and we'll say so up front rather than quietly using stock.
What it costs to run
After launch, a site needs hosting, security updates, backups, monitoring and changes. We handle that for a monthly fee under website maintenance, by the people who built it. It's the part most quotes leave out, and the part that decides whether the site still works in three years.
For the full picture of what a site needs and what it doesn't, read [what a small business website actually needs](/blog/what-a-small-business-website-needs), or [tell us about yours](/contact) and we'll quote it properly.
