Square Online, or a site of your own?
Square Online is Square's own site builder, and it's an easy way to start selling. Businesses outgrow it when the site needs to do more than list products: tell a story, rank for local searches, take bookings a particular way, or simply look like nobody else.
Moving to a website of your own doesn't mean leaving Square. The POS, payments, catalog and reports all stay; only the website changes.
How checkout works
Square offers two ways to take payment on a website. Its card form can sit inside your own checkout page, with Square handling the card details, or a Square-hosted checkout page can take over for the payment step. Either way the money and the order land in your Square account.
Card details go straight to Square and never touch the website, which keeps card security with the people who specialize in it.
Your catalog and stock
Products, prices and stock come from your Square catalog, so the item you sell at the counter and the one on your site are the same item. Sell the last one in store, and the website shows it as sold out.
Appointments and bookings
If you take bookings through Square Appointments, the booking flow opens from your site's buttons, or sits inside a page of its own. Appointments land in the same calendar your staff already use.
After launch
Payments, refunds and payouts stay in Square, where you already manage them. We look after the website side: keeping the connection running, updating pages, and checking checkout still works after Square makes changes.
