What is a service area page?

A service area page is a page on your website about your work in one particular town or area, written to help you show up when people there search for your service.

Service area page, explained

Simple first, then the detail. With how it's used, and why it matters to a business.

In plain English

It's opening a counter in each neighbourhood you serve, rather than one counter downtown that says "we come to you". Locals feel spoken to, and search engines know you really work there.

Used in a sentence

“We'll write a service area page for each of the five towns where most of your jobs are.”

“We serve the whole county, but Google only showed us for searches in the town where our office is.”

In detail

A strong service area page talks about the area itself: the jobs you've done there, the kinds of homes or businesses, local considerations, travel times, reviews from customers in that town and photos of real work nearby. It links to your main service pages and back, so the structure is clear.

Copying one page and swapping the town name is a doorway-page pattern that search engines treat as spam. A few genuinely useful area pages beat dozens of near-identical ones. They work best for service businesses that travel to customers, alongside a Business Profile that lists the same areas.

Why it matters for your business

Good service area pages help you show up beyond your own town, where your customers actually are.

  • Reach searches in each town you serve
  • Show real local work and reviews
  • Support your Business Profile's service area

Easy to mix up

A service area page isn't a list of town names on one page. Search engines need a real page with real local content to treat it as relevant to that area.

Questions and answers

Still have a question?

Ask us anything. We'll answer it straight, even if the answer is that we're not the right fit.

  • One for each area where you genuinely do a lot of work and can say something specific. Quality matters more than the count.

  • Not when each one is genuinely useful. Copies with only the town name changed are what search engines treat as spam.
